Introduction to Soil Biology

WMF Soil Microbe blends contain a scientifically balanced combination

of beneficial bacterial and fungal organisms that can assist in:

·               Improved plant growth and development

·               Reducing transplant losses / planting shock

·               Increase soil nutrient and mineral availability and water retention

·               Reduced need for synthetic fertilisers, fungicides and pesticides

·               Increased tolerance to drought, soil salinity & polluted soil conditions

·               Helping plant resistance to disease

·               Encouraging earthworm activity.

Healthy soil is living soil. It is full of tiny microorganisms that constantly break down plant material, making elemental nutrients bio-available to the plants.  Every nutrient transaction within the soil requires bacteria and fungi (the majority of these are beneficial and vital for nutrient exchange and subsequent availability to our plants, crops and pasture). The microbes digest organic material and primary minerals, turning it into rich fertiliser, which among other things assists in the formation of soil aggregates and excellent soil structure.

Product Description

WMF Soil Microbes are ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY, EASY & SAFE TO USE.  They are a combination of cultured BENEFICIAL soil bacteria and fungi micro-organisms.  There are three blends available, “Agriculture”, “Horticulture” and “Trichoderma Plus” - specially selected for their use in soil restoration & better nutrient release while helping with pathogen control.

WMF Soil Microbes are 100% organic and 100% non-toxic, and work to reintroduce & create a healthier living environment for the normal functions of the desirable microorganisms and earthworms, thus enhancing biological and sustainable life in the soil.

Soil microbes, which include bacteria, fungi and algae carry outa wide range of activity within the soil such as:

·         Nitrogen Fixers, which include bacteria that convert nitrogen from organic matter and ones that fix atmosphere nitrogen.

·         Nutrient Builders, Microbes that convert phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium and trace elements into a plant available form.

·         Growth Hormone, Produce natural plant stimulants like, indol-acetic acid, amino acid, gibberellum and vitamins as a metabolic by product. All necessary for plant growth and vigor.

·         Decomposers, The converters of organic matter to organic carbon and converting crop residue into plant available nutrient.

·         Protecting Bacteria, Organism that release antibiotics that inhibit disease producing microbes like, root rot, fungi and pythium.

·         Soil Conditioner, algae that secrete a polysaccharide by product that form soil aggregates which play an important role in soil structure.

Modes of Action

Mineral imbalances and deficiencies in our soil lead to poor viability (both from plant nutrition and stock points of view, as well as from an economic one).  The first step to correcting these soil imbalances is to input a broad spectrum of base fundamental minerals via silicate-based mineral fertilisers. Beneficial microbes can then mobilize essential fundamental minerals and create and maintain excellent soil structure and humus content – all contributing to a balanced healthy micro-environment, and an ecologically sustainable soil system working to the benefit of plant production.

Although plants essentially require nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorous (NPK), they also require many other trace nutrients, minerals, hormones etc available only in healthy soils full of beneficial microbes.  The goal is to restore and / or maintain healthy soil - to provide plants with all the nutrients and growth factors required to be healthy.

METHOD

PROCEDURE

SEED DRESSING:

 (Broadacre Cropping)

Contact Western Mineral Fertilisers for seed specific Data sheet and Methods

Pasture Renovation and Green Manure Cropping

(Seeding into moist ground)

75g / Litre water

- SLOWLY add Microbe Powder while stirring to clean water, make slurry and mix immediately to seed until evenly coated – as per standard seed coating methods. Different seed may require different volume – ensure seed in lightly coated without sticking together.  Seed coating may be done through auger, cement mixer or by hand – sow seed within 48 hours.

FOLIAR FEEDING

(Cereals & Pasture)

- Boom Spraying

  Broad acre

100-150 grams Microbes per/ha

Activate microbes in water (see method below). Filter before adding to tank.

Mix filtered Activated concentrate at 1 litre/ha with a minimum of 40 litres of clean water.  Best sprayed morning, evening, night when there is moisture or even light rain.

The dilution can be as high as 1 litre to 450 litres water.

Horticulture

(Vegetables, Turf)

Apply filtered Activated Concentrate at 2.5 litres/ha in minimum of 400 litres water at planting, follow up 30 days later with 1 litre/ha in min 400 litres/water

Activating The Microbes

(making Activated Concentrate)

To make the Activated Concentrate for foliar feeding and ferdigation, SLOWLY mix while stirring 1 kg of WMF Hort Soil Microbe blend to 9litres of clean water.

 There are 2 methods;

Standard - Stir the Concentrate mixture and allow to stand in a warm place for at least 48 hours stirring occasionally.  Filter through WMF mesh filter bag.

Use the mixture within 48 hours of activating.

Heated - Use a fish tank heater and heat to 28-30 C (not above 35 C).  This mix can be used within 24 hours and is preferred as it ensures better microbe growth. Filter through WMF mesh filter bag, use within 48 hours of activating.

*Note – it is very important that the equipment is clean of residual synthetic chemicals and fungicides before using WMF Microbes.

Domestic Application

·         Activate microbes for 48hrs prior to application (50g/10Litres water – best at 28-30oC with occasional stirring).

·         Apply at 100ml per square metre or 100ml per 1m high plant

·        Initially drench soil around plant, & lightly water after 30mins.

·         Root or foliar feed every 24 – 30 days (25g /10Litres)

·         Spray underside of leaves as well - apply late afternoon

USE ACTIVATED MICROBES

 WITHIN 4 DAYS
