The "WMF LIVING SOILS CONFERENCE - Swan Valley 2010" was held in Guildford on Wednesday 17th February 2010. Keynote addresses were delivered by Dr Christine Jones, Dr Ash Martin and David Koutsoukis.

Dr Christine Jones is an internationally renowned and highly respected groundcover and soils ecologist has a wealth of experience working with innovative landholders to implement regenerative land management techniques that enhance biodiversity, increase biological activity, sequester carbon, activate soil nutrient cycles, restore water balance, improve productivity and create new topsoil.

Dr Ash Martin, is the Principal of CIAF Soil Microbiology Laboratories.  Dr Martin is a highly experienced soil microbiologist with particular interests in mycorrhizal fungi. He discussed the roles of some of the key microbial groups important to soil health and seek to ‘de-mystify’ soil microbiology for the grower and agronomist alike. He also explained the CIAF tests, how, when and where to use them, and how to interpret them.

David Koutsoukis is an internationally recognised thought leader and skilled practitioner in the area of leadership. He has spent more than 20 years exploring the art and science of leadership. David has the CSP designation (the highest international accreditation held by only 7% of speakers worldwide) and has twice been named Western Australian Speaker of the Year.

Modern times require modern thinking, and with agricultural technology becoming more complex and margins becoming tighter, farmers need to ‘Think Smart’ in order to create and maintain a competitive advantage. As the global momentum for sustainability builds, only those who remain at the cutting-edge will thrive and survive. The old saying goes ‘Change before you have to’, but perhaps we should really be saying ‘Change before it’s too late.’ This program will give you tools, strategies and the inspiration you need for a positive faming future through Smart Thinking – Smart Farming.

Conference Proceeding will be available in the near future.
